The Trail Trekkers Program offers a series of day hikes which can be completed by Cub Scouts and their families. The hikes may be completed as individual families or as a den or pack activity. These are opportunities for outdoor adventures that are high in “boy appeal” that allow a boy and his family to learn about the world around them; and they include a wide range of activities. The hikes are located throughout South Eastern Wisconsin and each hike has its own appeal. Some are more physically demanding and more appropriate for Webelos-age boys. Others can be accomplished by any age group. Whichever hikes you choose, please take the time to enjoy the natural environment around you. Do some research on the plants, trees and animals that live in the area, and find out about the geological features that are so prevalent in our area. By knowing more about our environment, you will get a better perspective and enhanced appreciation for how things work together, and how important all things are to the total picture. Best of all, you’ll get out! Keeping the “Outing in Scouting!
One of the exciting aspects of the Trail Trekkers Program are the embroidered patches that are awarded to all successful scouts after completing the requirements of each hike. However, the earning of the patch should not be the reason for completing a hike, rather a Trekkers patch should be a memento to show that one has enjoyed a family Scouting event. When worn on the red vest, the basic Trail Trekkers patch is surrounded by smaller hike patches, showing an ever-growing pattern of fun. All patches must be earned by following the directions in the Trail Trekker Program Guide.
Hikes may be completed anytime of year with individual families, as a den outing or as a pack outing.
To receive your patch: Complete the requirements for your selected hike as instructed in the Trail Trekker Program Guide. Please report completion of your hikes to your den leader or to the pack Advancement and Recognition Coordinator (Paul R.). Include which patch requirements were completed along with the date. Patches will be awarded at monthly Pack Nights.
